named in Best of the Web from Center for Digital
Government
Mesa was recently named as a finalist in the
Best of the Web Awards for City Portals. In
addition, the city won an honorable mention in the
government internal category for the automated web
application for PC cycle replacement.
The Best of the Web Award is a national program
that recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly
state and local government portals.
The Center for Digital Government is a national
research and advisory institute on information
technology policies and best practices in state and

City of Mesa named a top digital city
The City of Mesa has been selected as the ninth
best large digital city according to a survey
conducted by the Center for Digital Government. The
2006 Digital Cities Survey examined and assessed how
city governments are utilizing information
technology to operate and deliver quality service to
their customers and citizens. Mayors, chief
information officers and city managers at over 300
of the nation's cities were invited to participate.
Survey questions focused on implementation and
adoption of online service delivery; planning and
governance; and the infrastructure and architecture
that make the transformation to digital government
possible.

Mesa Channel 11 receives Telly Awards for "Mesa Arts
Center Live" production
The 28th Annual Telly Awards recognized Mesa
Channel 11 and Mesa Arts Center for outstanding
cable programming, with two Bronze awards. It was
the eighth time Channel 11 has been recognized by
the organization. The competition, founded in 1976,
is considered the premier award to honor outstanding
local, regional and cable TV commercials and
programs, as well as film and video productions.
The programs were selected from more than 13,000
national and international entries and were judged
on a 10-point scale. Judges for the Telly Awards are
comprised of a group of professionals from the
advertising, creative and production industry that
have been awarded Telly Awards in past years.
City of Mesa Fleet earns Blue Seal of Excellence
Certification
The Fleet Services Department's East Mesa
Service Center has been awarded the prestigious Blue
Seal of Excellence certification by the National
Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
The certification is earned primarily by private
sector automotive repair shops that exhibit high
quality work and training standards. The City of
Mesa is the largest municipal fleet to receive the
award in Arizona and one of only 44 professional
shops in State that have met the stringent criteria.
ASE recognizes this outstanding accomplishment by
presenting the shop with a customized plaque to
display at the facility.
Utilities Department scores big at AWPCA awards
ceremony
The City of Mesa was honored with several awards
at the annual Arizona Water and Pollution Control
Association (AWPCA) conference held May 2 – 4, 2007
at Mesa Convention Center. The awards recognized
staff excellence, as well as plant construction and
overall management. The awards were:
- Wastewater Project of the Year – Greenfield
Water Reclamation Plant.
- Large Water Reclamation Plant of the Year –
Southeast Water Reclamation Plant.
City of Mesa Solid Waste Management Department named
for Municipality of the Year Award.
The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA)
presented the Solid Waste Management Department with
the Municipality of the Year award at their May 5,
2007 Road-E-O event in Glendale. Municipalities and
private hauling companies from all over the state
participated in this competition created to showcase
the skills and talents of their employees.

has been named the outstanding CDBG project
The City of Mesa’s Homeowner’s Rehabilitation
Project has been named the outstanding CDBG project
by the state of Arizona for fiscal year 2005-2006..
Mesa’s Homeowner’s Rehabilitation Project is one of
ten projects and programs honored at this year’s
event as part of National Community Development
Week.
Mesa Arts Center Receives ASLA Award
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
announced Mesa Arts Center as a recipients of their
2007 Professional Award of Honor. The jury
considered over 500 entries and selected 38 projects
to receive awards. The awards will be presented on
October 8 at the ASLA Annual Meeting in San

Purchasing receives Excellence Award
The
Purchasing Division has been awarded the Achievement
of Excellence in Procurement award for the third
straight year. Recipients of this award have met
criteria designed to measure innovation,
professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and
leadership attributes of the procurement
organization.
This prestigious award is earned by those
organizations that demonstrate excellence by
obtaining a high score based on the standardized
criteria. The program recognizes organizational
excellence in public procurement was established in
1995, and serves as the National Program to
Benchmark Organizational Excellence in Purchasing.
The award will be presented at NIGP’s Annual
Forum in August. The National Purchasing Institute,
the Institute for Supply Management, and the
National Institute of Governmental Purchasing
sponsor the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement
award.
