Public Safety Training Facility Improvements
District: 5
Location: 3260 N. 40th Street
Project Description: The Public Safety
Training Facility was built in 1986 for the training
of police and fire recruits and ongoing training of
incumbents. Classrooms were added to the facility in
1996. Currently there are no dedicated classrooms to
support Special Operations or command/operations
simulation training which is a core training
element. Over the last four years, the Fire
Department has had an average of 26 firefighter
recruits at the academy and the Police Department
has had an average of 38 police recruits. Both
Police and Fire use the Public Safety Training
Facility for regular training sessions for
incumbents. Fire staffing at the Public Safety
Training Facility includes six regular staff, with
additional staff assigned depending on the activity
at the facility. Police staffing at the facility
consists of 23 training staff. The projected growth
in police and fire training are not supported by the
current building configuration. This project will
provide necessary improvements to the facility to
accommodate facility needs for training of police,
fire recruits and ongoing training for incumbents.
Project Cost: $3,750,000 First Full Year O&M:
