Mesa Drive: Southern Avenue to US-60 (Superstition Fwy)

Project Description:
Currently over 65,000 vehicles pass through the intersection of
Mesa Drive and Southern Avenue each day. This exceeds the
capacity of the roadway and results in considerable congestion,
traffic accidents, and long backups on both Southern Avenue and
Mesa Drive. This is a Regional Transportation Plan project to
mitigate traffic delay and congestion and enhance safety.
Specifically, this project will construct fully-protected dual left turn
lanes, add a third through lane for each direction on Southern
Avenue, and a third through lane for each direction on Mesa Drive
from US-60 through the intersection at Southern Avenue. It
includes improvements to the storm sewer system to mitigate
street flooding during storms. Funding for the improvements to the
storm sewer system will be from general obligation bonds.
