Gilbert Road and University Drive

District: 2
Category: Regional Transportation Plan
Project Description:
The intersection of Gilbert Road and University
Drive currently
experiences significant congestion during peak
hours. Gilbert
Road was previously widened to six lanes from a
quarter-mile
south of University Drive to Southern Avenue. This
project is a
Regional Transportation Plan project to mitigate
traffic delay and
congestion and enhance safety. Specifically, this
project will
extend the six-lane section on Gilbert Road,
including a raised
median, north through the University Drive
intersection. A third
through lane in each direction will be added on
University drive in
addition to dual left turn lanes for all directions,
bus pullouts on all
four corners, and a right turn lane for eastbound.
