Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) System
This area of the Fire Department, under the direction of Deputy Chief, Bruce
McGregor acts as a liaison between the
Mesa Fire Department and the Public Safety Communications
Center to ensure the radio communications and emergency
dispatching meets the needs of the Fire Department and the
Citizens of Mesa. He also works directly with Information
Services CAD Technicians to program and maintain the
necessary information and response lists in the Public
Safety Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System. The
mapping data necessary for the CAD System is processed
by Chris Arriaga, the Geographic Information System
Specialist. Maintaining standardization of unit responses
and communication terminology between communication
centers for the valley-wide automatic aid agreements is also
managed by the Deputy Chief. Another area managed is the
Information Systems Coordinator which oversees the data
communications needs and records management systems.
The Deputy Chief also provides research, development and
implementation of new technologies.
Current projects include:
- Upgrading the Mobile Computer Terminals (MCTs) in all Fire Units.
- Programming all of the new MCTs prior to install.
- Upgrading the Public Safety CAD System, including the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) System in the Fire Units.
- Implementing an automated paging system interfaced with the CAD System.
- Implementing an interconnect between the Mesa CAD System and the City of Phoenix Fire Departments CAD System.
- Installing scanners in all RCs to process invoice of payments.
