Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
Family Self-Sufficiency
 

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is voluntary.  It was created to help families be able to live without assistance through school and job training.

Are you:
  • A current Section 8 Voucher participant and living in Mesa?

  • At least 18 years old?

  • Wanting to change the way you live now?

  • Wanting to learn more and get job training?

  • Wanting to get away from using public assistance?

  • Willing to received case management and sign an FSS Contract of Participation?

If the answers are YES to all questions, then FSS is for YOU!!!

Participating FSS families sign a "Contract of Participation" with the Mesa Housing & Revitalization which outlines the rights and responsibilities of the family during their participation in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program. 

An FSS family has up to five (5) years to complete the specific goals and objectives established by them in their "Individual Training and Service Plan".

  • Personal Case Management

  • Education and Training

  • Career Counseling:  Career exploration / Job Search / Resume Writing / Interviewing Skills

  • Child Care and Transportation

  • Parenting Skills: Workshops / Classes / One-on-one Training

  • Financial Planning and Budgeting

  • Counseling Services: One-on-one / Family / Support Groups

  • Communication Skills

  • Substance Abuse Counseling/Treatment

Steps in the Program
  • Complete FSS Interest Form

  • Attend a one-on-one Information Session

  • Develop, with the help of your FSS Case Manager, an "Individual Training and Service Plan" which includes objectives, goals, strategies and timelines

  • Sign an "FSS Contract of Participation"

  • Receive Case Management services

  • Fully complete your "Contract of Participation" and graduate from the Program!
