Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E Grant

Due to its overwhelming popularity, the Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E. Grant program is suspended until further notice. July 1, 2007 to October 16, 2007 Mesa neighborhoods received over $13,000 for landscape projects, G.A.I.N. events, barricades, two alley gates, block wall repairs, neighborhood identification signage, and a new neighborhood park.

The mission of the Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E program is to encourage and support residents in their efforts to build safer, healthier, and more self-sufficient neighborhoods.

As a neighborhood resident, you understand your community better than anyone else- it's people, resources, strengths, and it's most pressing challenges.  Most of all, you know what it takes to make it a better place to live.  The Mesa United Way P.R.I.D.E. (People & Resources to Improve, Develop, & Energize) program encourages Mesa residents to identify and build upon the strengths of individuals, associations, and organizations to create positive benefits for themselves and their neighbors.

The P.R.I.D.E grant program is sponsored and funded by Mesa United Way and co-funded by the City of Mesa's Neighborhood Outreach Office.

The mission of the Neighborhood P.R.I.D.E program is to encourage and support residents in their efforts to build safer, healthier, and more self-sufficient neighborhoods.  The goal is to fund project ideas evolved from a shared community concern.  The people affected by the issue or challenge will plan, design, and implement their own collective solutions.

P.R.I.D.E. Grant Eligibility

Applicants should be volunteer-driven groups having small-to-no operating budgets and have limited access to other funding sources.  Agencies that receive funding through the Mesa United Way community investment process are not eligible to apply for funding but may collaborate with, or provide guidance to, a neighborhood group applying for such funds.  Applicants are encouraged to partner with local schools, businesses, churches, agencies or other groups in their projects.  Applications should be mailed to:

Mesa United Way
137 E. University Drive
Mesa, AZ  85201
Attention: Judy Bowden

To qualify for P.R.I.D.E. funding, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate the project is neighborhood initiated and has neighborhood support.
  • Clearly define the neighborhood it represents and residents who benefit.
  • Demonstrate Mesa residents are involved in the planning and implementation of the project.
  • Show how the project will utilize existing community assets- people, places, institutions, organizations, etc.
  • Maintain and submit project receipts detailing the use of funds.
  • Submit a progress report and expense statement within two months of project completion.
  • Participate in site visits and/or phone interviews.

Homeowner's Associations must submit a two-year budget with their application.  P.R.I.D.E. funding awarded to Homeowner's Associations can not be used to pay for infrastructure projects.

Regular grants of up to $2,500 will be awarded for both one-year and two-year projects.  Generally, projects are expected to be completed within a 12-month period.  Groups with two-year projects will be subject to an interview and/or site visit prior to receiving funds for the second year of the grant.  Fund disbursement will occur on a case by case basis.

Individual neighborhood groups may receive a maximum of $2,500 per calendar year. Neighborhood groups are eligible to apply for additional funding for a project within the 13th month, and applications can be submitted for the same project.  For the convenience of our residents, the application form is provided below.
