The Spirit of Mesa Neighborhood Awards celebrate the achievements of residents, community groups and organizations. A panel of community judges will select the winners.

Categories & Criteria

Neighborhood Events / Community Building Award
Neighbors got to know each other  a significant impact was made on neighborhood communication, interaction, and cooperation  neighborhood unity was promoted

Neighborhood Public Safety Award
The goal was to increase safety  results included an increased awareness of public safety among residents through education, involvement, activities, etc.  Examples: Neighborhood Watch / crime prevention activity or improved traffic safety

Margie Frost Neighborhood Advocacy & Organization Award
Used civic mobilization (petitions, letters, meetings, etc.) to achieve objective, or  the activity resulted in the creation of a neighborhood plan or vision

Neighborhood Beautification Award
The activity improved neighborhood appearance  Examples: neighborhood cleanup, building renovation

Virginia Lamb Award 
The Virginia Lamb Award for Neighborhood Leadership was created in memory of Virginia Lamb, a long-time Mesa resident and leader of the North Center Revitalization Association (NCRA). Virginia was known for her fiery persistence, her candid speech, her dedication to the improvement of her neighborhood, and her unshakable faith in the power of good people working together to create positive change.

Eligibility

Mesa residents, neighborhood groups, businesses, or organizations that participated in a project, program, event or activity between January 1 and December 31 of the current year are eligible.  City employees are not eligible for contributions that are considered part of their normal job duties. 

Selection Process
 
A committee of community representatives will select winners after evaluating nominations based on the criteria for each category. Winners will be notified by March 31 of the current year.  The contact person listed on the nomination form will receive the award on behalf of his or her neighborhood, unless other arrangements are made.  Upon notification, the contact person will select the award to be received. Options may include community plaque, neighborhood signs or neighborhood grant. Virginia Lamb Award winner will receive an engraved plaque.
