Many states, counties, and communities across the country have used this tool to address specific housing goals in their communities. While this may be similar to the General Plan in that it provides a vision and policy direction, it is specifically related to housing. The Housing Master Plan is expected to take the City of Mesa in a new direction with thoughtful planning and unified policies for housing.

Purpose of a Housing Master Plan

Serve as the housing-related policy guide for our City
Provide the blueprint for future housing policies in Mesa
Provide a framework for decision-making by all those involved in providing and managing housing in the City.

Example Goals found in Housing Master Plans

Develop new opportunities for home ownership at all income levels
Meet the housing needs of the most vulnerable citizens, including seniors, homeless people, and those with special needs and disabilities
Create decent affordable housing for working families Preserve, improve, enhance the historic and mature housing stock in the city
