Zoning Administration

The Zoning Administration Section is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Zoning Ordinance. Gordon Sheffield, Zoning Administrator, provides official interpretations of the zoning ordinance and process amendments to the zoning ordinance. There are three work functions within Zoning Administration.

Board of Adjustment - Agendas -  Procedures. Hear and decide appeals from the actions of the Zoning Administrator when granting or denying Variances or Special Use Permits, or in the interpretation of the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance.

Zoning Administrator Hearing Officer - Agendas - Procedures - Hear and decide appeals of alleged error in decisions made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance. Hear and decide Special Use Permits and Variance applications.

Civil Hearing Officer - Calendar - Procedures - Mesa’s approach to implementing the civil hearing program is unique in that it utilizes an administrative hearing process rather than the traditional court-based system.
