Home Repair/Landscaping

We have received calls that the home repair con artists are active in the East Valley. In one instance, an elderly couple lost over $1,800 to two men who came to their door offering to sell and install carpet. The couple first gave the men a check for $1200 to pay them for the carpet and labor, but the men came back and said the bank would not cash the check, and they needed cash. The couple then paid them cash.  The men came back the next day to begin work and told the couple that they needed $600 in repairs on their floor before they could install the carpet. The couple paid them in cash. The men left to get materials, and have not returned. Please be careful when people come to your door and offer to sell you something or perform a service. This is an active time of year for con artists. Please check with the Registrar of Contractors to determine the status of the contractor's license, and please get references. Don't fall for the liens of door-to-door salespeople who just happen to be in your neighborhood.
