attempted kidnapping suspect

The incident occurred 10/24/06 at approximately 12:40 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Emerald Avenue in Mesa. The victim, a student at Mesa High School, was walking westbound in a residential neighborhood when a man pulled up in a car alongside her as she crossed the street. The man grabbed her arm through the driver's side window and told her to get into the car. The victim managed to pull away from the suspect and run in the opposite direction of the vehicle. As the girl approached the intersection of Harris and Emerald, the suspect physically confronted her. The suspect apparently left his vehicle, ran up to the victim and grabbed her by the shoulders. The victim screamed and fought off her attacker, then ran to Mesa High School where she reported the incident. A witness's statement and suspect description confirmed and matched the account of the victim. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 30's, approximately 5' 5" tall, 140 pounds. The suspect spoke both English and Spanish. He was wearing a white baseball hat, dark tinted glasses, a light-colored short sleeve shirt and jeans.  He was driving a late model white 4-door Nissan with tinted windows. The vehicle was further described as being "loud" and in poor condition. Both the suspect and the vehicle are still outstanding.


On 07/07/2006 at 6:00 a.m., three Hispanic males entered the citizen's home at gunpoint and held him hostage. The citizen was forced to write checks from his checking account and give up his debit card and PIN. While the citizen was being held hostage, a female subject arrived to pick up the checks and debit card. She went to banks in the area and cashed the checks and withdrew cash from ATMs. Any information on the suspects would be appreciate. They are described as a Hispanic female and Carlos Adrian Escobedo-Corpus, age 18. Report number 20061880264.

On 7/9/2006 at 1:47 a.m., a citizen drove to the Chase Bank at 431 W. Southern Ave. with a friend to withdraw some money from the ATM outside of the bank. As he was completing his transaction, a subject walked up behind him and asked for a cigarette. The citizen told him he didn't have any and looked away. As he looked away, he heard the subject demand his money. The citizen turned around and saw the subject holding a small black semiautomatic handgun close to his body and point the barrel at the citizen. the citizen gave the subject the money he had gotten from the ATM. The subject demanded the citizen's wallet and then fled southbound. The subject is described as a black male, 20's, 5'10", average build, short dark-colored hair. Report number 20061900097.

On 08/16/2006 at 2:39 p.m., an unknown Caucasian male subject robbed the Tru West Credit Union at 6550 E. Superstition Springs Blvd. He gave the teller a note claiming he had a bomb. This subject is responsible for a number of robberies. The subject usually wears khaki shorts, sunglasses and a hat. The subject is described as follows: white male, lat 40s to early 50s, 5'09" - 6'00", 200-230 pounds, light brown graying hair. Report number 20062280626.

No photo available. On 08/16/2006 at 10:40 p.m., a citizen gave the subject a ride. The subject was carrying what appeared to be a baby bundled in a blanket. When the victim stopped at 525 W. Mahoney Ave., the subject pulled out a chrome semiautomatic pistol and demanded the citizen's wallet. The subject tool the wallet and vehicle keys and ran northbound. The bundle the subject was carrying was only a blanket rolled up. The subject is described as a black male, 25 years of age, 6'00", 220 pounds and bald. Report number 20062281082.

On 08/27/2006 at 2:30 a.m., subject #1 entered the Circle K at 809 E. Southern Ave. and told the clerk they were taking some beer and for the clerk not to do anything or he would get hurt. Subject #2 entered shortly after subject #1 and then subject #3 entered. Subjects #1 and #2 went to the cooler to get the beer while subject #3 stayed at the counter to make sure the clerk didn't do anything to prevent them from getting the beer. As the subjects were leaving, subject #2 stopped and took several BIC-style lighters. All three subjects jumped into a black newer Ford F-250 crew cab pickup truck with chrome rims and fled. The subjects are described as:
  • #1 - Hispanic male, 20 years old, 5'09", 165 pounds, short black wavy hair and brown eyes;
  • #2 - Hispanic male, 20 years old, no further description;
  • #3 - Hsipanic male, 20 years old, 6'00", 175 pounds

On 09/12/2006 at 1:34 a.m., a subject entered the Circle K at 1955 W. University Dr. and asked for a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk turned around with the pack, the subject pulled a dark-colored revolver from his waistband and demanded the money from the register. The subject is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 18 years old, 5'08", 160 pounds, wears a baseball cap tilted to the left side. Report number 20062550040.

No photo available. On 09/15/2006 at 1:59 p.m., a mobile check cashing service employee was driving an armor-plated van in the area of Inverness and Solomon. He stopped at a stop sign and was rear-ended by a 1993-1996 faded black step side Chevrolet 1/2-ton regular cab pickup truck. The employee exited his vehicle to look at the damage and had brief contact with the driver of the pickup truck. A 1993-1996 four-door sedan with dark tinted windows pulled up behind the pickup truck and the passenger of the sedan exited the vehicle and approached the employee, forcing him into the van at gunpoint. The passenger fired one shot into the victim's leg while forcing him into the back of the van. The passenger noticed two witnesses approaching the van and ponited a chrome semiautomatic .40 caliber handbun with black grips at them. The passenger then jumped into the passenger seat of the black pickup truck and the pickup truck fled westbound on Javelina. The employee followed int eh van, striking the rear of the pickup truck. The passenger fired at least two shots at the victim's vehicle with one shot striking the front windshield of the van.  The subjects are described as:
  • #1 - Hispanic male, early 20s, approximately 5'10", 150 pounds, and buzz cut dark hair;
  • #2 - Hsipanic male, early 20s, 6'00" - 6'02", approximately 200 pounds, and short or buzz cut dark hair.

On 09/20/2006 at 1:51 p.m., the subject entered the Chase Bank at 2020 E. McKellips Rd., went to the teller window, presented a demand note while displaying a handgun.

A citizen was returning to her apartment at 2340 W. University Dr. when she noticed the subjects walking toward her. The subjects got in front of her car. Subject #2 ordered subject #1 to take the citizen's purse. Subject #1 pointed a silver handgun at her and demanded her purse. The citizen threw the purse on top of her car and subject #2 grabbed it. The subjects ran to a silver passenger car and fled on University Dr. The subjects are described as:
  • #1 - Hispanic male, late teens;
  • #2 - Hispanic male, late teens;

On 09/25/2006 at 11:37 a.m., the subject entered the Fry's Marketplace at 4440 E. Main St. and proceeded directly to the Bank of America located inside the store. He approached the teller window and produced a demand note. He was very calm and stern. He took the money and the note and walked out of the bank. This subject may be involved in numerous other robberies that have occurred in Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Scottsdale. The subject is described as a white male, approximately 30-40 years old, 6'03", and 180 pounds. Report number 20062680426.

No photo available. On 10/01/2006 at 11:15 p.m., a citizen was sitting on a bench in the area of Salsitas Mexican Food restaurant at 311 W. Main St. waiting for her food order. When she stood up, she noticed a subject in a newer model gold colored four-door passenger car. The subject was pointing a black handgun at her and ordered her into the vehicle. The subject took the citizen's purse and drove her to the area of Rural Rd. and Guadalupe Rd. and dropped her off. The subject is described as a black male, 5'05", 200 pounds, bald head, and "messed up teeth." Report number 20062740850.

No photo available. On 10/08/2006 at 11:06 p.m., subjects entered three mexican fast food restaurants and removed the case registers from the counter. All three robberies occurred between 11:00 p.m. and 12:13 a.m. One subject pointed a black or chrome handgun at the employees, while the other subject removed the cash register. the subjects fled in a white newer model four-door passenger car with chrome wheels and a spoiner, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu. Two or three other people were seen in the vehicle during the robbery. The subjects are described as  white males, early 20s, 5'07" to 5'09", 140-175 pounds. The subject with the gun had blond hair and wore a white baseball cap. The other subject wore a bandana or a piece of clothing over his face. In one of the robberies, one subject wore a mask of an old man with a cigar in his mouth.  Report number 20062810905.

On June 6, 2006 at 1:18 a.m., an unknown subject entered the Circle K at 2709 W. Guadalupe Rd. and simulated a handgun demanding money from the clerk. The clerk gave the subject cash from the register. The subject left the store heading southbound on foot. The subject is described as an African-American male, 35  years old, 6' tall, 230 pounds, last seen wearing a tan shirt, black pants and a tan baseball cap. On July 29, 2006 at 9:52 a.m., an unknown Caucasian male subject robbed the Desert Schools Federal Credit Union at 3740 E. Southern Ave. The subject approached the female teller and demanded the fifties and hundreds be put in the bag he handed her. The subject then fled on food heading eastbound then north around the building with the money. The subject is described as a Caucasian male, 25 years old, 5' 10", 250 pounds, last seen wearing a green t-shirt with a white undershirt and a blue fisherman style hat with flowers. The report number for this case is 20062100336.

On August 4, 2006 at 10:49 a.m. at Discoteca Mendoza at 1356 E. Broadway Rd., two unknown Hispanic males entered the store and walked around until there were no other customers in the store. They approached the counter as if to buy a CD. Subject #1 pulled a handgun and told the clerk to get on the ground. Subject #2 then walked behind the counter and took the money out of the drawer. Both subjects fled on foot heading westbound. The subjects are described as follows:
  • Subject #1 - Hispanic male, approximately 17-20 years old, medium complexion, dark hair.
  • Subject #2 - Hispanic male, approximately 17-20 years old, thin build.

On Sunday, September 5, 2004 a female victim reported to Mesa Police that she had been stopped on a traffic stop the night prior by what she thought was a police officer.  She told police that the stop was on Saturday September 4th, 2004 at 10:00 p.m.  The location of the stop was 4353 E. Main Street. The victim reported that after being stopped she was told that she was being investigated for a crime that had just occurred.  The victim was asked to exit her vehicle and was placed in handcuffs.  The victim was then searched and allegedly touched inappropriately.  The suspect removed money from the victim’s pockets and never returned it.  The handcuffs were then removed and she was allowed to leave. The case was investigated and no businesses reported a theft in the area and no other police agencies reported to be in the area. The suspect is described as a white male, late 30's, 5’10” tall, 180 pounds, no facial hair, wore a hat so no color of hair could be seen.  Suspect spoke in a deep voice, wore dark colored BDU pants with pockets, a dark colored short sleeved button down shirt with what appeared to be a badge on the chest, dark shoes, a dark baseball cap with gold writing on the front and a wide shiny black belt with 4 clasps on the buckle.  The belt also contained several accessory pouches including a holster but the victim was unsure if the suspect had a gun. The vehicle is described as an older model white Ford Crown Victoria with large circles on the doors.  There was a dark blue or black stripe that ran between the doors only and did not extend to the front or rear quarter panels.  The vehicle had black bumpers, no push bars, no hubcaps, and had an actual light bar mounted on the roof.  The victim reported seeing red and white lights in her rearview mirror when stopped.

On Saturday August 21, 2004 at 10:10 a.m. the Mesa Police Department received a 911 call in reference to a sexual assault in the 1000 block of West 8th Avenue. The victim reported that she was asleep in her bed when the unknown suspect confronted her.  The suspect sexually assaulted the victim and then fled on foot. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 18-22 years old, 5'6" tall, 130 pounds, light mustache, red baseball hat (word backwards), white t-shirt and blue jeans.

On Friday February 6, 2004 at 8:30 a.m. a 12-year-old female was walking to school northbound on Extension in the area of 2nd Place. A small red standard cab truck pulled in front of her and an unknown white male passenger got out the vehicle. The male passenger yelled for the 12 year old female to come over to him. The female was scared and ran home. The female reported that the male began to chase her for a short distance. We received the call approximately 30 minutes after the incident occurred. The passenger is described as a white male, approximately 35 years old, 5'8" tall, thin build, wearing a gray shirt, black pants and a salt and pepper colored beard. The female did not have any description of the driver of the vehicle other than he was a white male. (photo top left) The only additional suspect description is that the passenger was a Hispanic male who spoke English but with a Spanish accent. (photo bottom left)  It is unknown what the intentions of these individuals were. In light of recent events, this would be a good opportunity for parents to talk with their children about what to do if strangers approach them. The female in this case did the right thing by running away and not taking any chances. 


On Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 4:48 p.m. an unknown suspect robbed the Bank One inside Frys Food Store located at 554 West Baseline Road in Mesa. The suspect approached the victim teller and presented a demand note. The teller complied with the suspect's demand and provided him with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. The suspect left the bank and fled in an unknown direction. The suspect is described as a white male, 6'2" tall, 200 pounds, dark colored hair, goatee, late 20's, dirty as if he hadn't bathed in a couple of days, wearing a black jacket, black shirt, white baseball hat and dark sunglasses.

On Monday, August 25, 2003, a 16-year-old Red Mountain High School student was assaulted after getting off a school bus in the area of 80th Street and University. The victim reported that after she got off the bus she was approached by an unknown male subject asking if she had seen his dog. The victim told him that she had not and began walking away. The male approached her again and asked how she was doing. The victim continued to walk away. The male grabbed her around the neck and then put her in a chokehold. The victim was then struck several times in the face by the male's fist. The victim was then pushed to the ground and hit several more times. The victim was located by a citizen in the area and taken home. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated and released for bruises, cuts and lacerations. Officers were not able to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male in his early 40s, 5'8" tall, 190 pounds with brown hair.

On November 7th, 2003 Mesa Police received a call from a 17-year-old female who had been sexually abused. The 17-year-old female victim alleges she had been waiting for a bus in the area of Dobson/Broadway. An unknown white male subject driving an older model yellow pickup truck asked her if she needed a ride. The female refused and the vehicle then drove away. A short time later in the same vicinity the same subject drove by again and was able to force the victim into his truck. The male suspect drove to a nearby area where he stopped his vehicle and began to sexually abuse the victim. The male suspect threatened the victim with bodily harm if she attempted to escape. The female victim was able to struggle her way out of the vehicle window. The male suspect then drove away in an unknown direction. The victim was able to complete a composite sketch of the attacker (see photo at right). She described the subject as the following:

  • Approximately 38 years old
  • 6'04" 220 lbs
  • Light brown hair, hazel eyes
  • Wearing, denim jacket, black t-shirt, and blue jeans

There were no known witnesses to the incident. Mesa Police are asking for any assistance in locating this individual.

sexassltsuspect_901sccl_new.gif (22247 bytes) On Saturday, 4/26/03 at about 12:30 a.m., Mesa Police Officers were dispatched to the Tiburon apartment Complex located at 901 S. Country Club in Mesa in reference to an unknown trouble call. When officers arrived they learned that a suspect had sexually assault a female, while threatening her with a sharp object, as she was walking to her apartment. An apartment complex security guard heard the female victim screaming for help and chased the suspect as he fled the area. The suspect was not caught. The suspect is described by the victim as a Hispanic male in his twenties, 5'6", 145 pounds with black hair. He was last seen wearing black shorts, a white t-shirt and a baseball type cap.
