Armed Robbery Arrest

Two armed robbery suspects were recently arrested by the Mesa Police Department. The arrests of 26-year-old Jonathan Lunsford and 34-year-old Jenny Schrock, both of Mesa comes after a local Diamond Shamrock convenience store was robbed at gunpoint on Friday November 23, 2007 at 7:54 a.m. In that case it was determined that Lunsford entered the Diamond Shamrock located at 5158 E. University in Mesa and pointed a handgun at the clerk while demanding the money from the cash register. Lunsford took an undisclosed amount of currency from the cash register and fled the store on foot. He was seen running from the store towards a blue Hyundai passenger car that had an Arizona license plate number of 796YTC. Lunsford entered the passenger side of the vehicle that was driven by Jenny Schrock who later admitted knowledge of the robbery during a post-Miranda interview. Lunsford and Schrock fled the scene in the vehicle and were not immediately located.

Investigators from the Red Mountain Patrol Division Criminal Investigations Unit were able to gather intelligence that led them to the capture of Lunsford and Schrock later that same afternoon. At the time of the arrest items of evidence connecting Lunsford to the Diamond Shamrock robbery were found on his person. Lunsford also had possession of a white powder like substance that later tested positive for the presence of Cocaine. During a post-Miranda interview Lunsford admitted to the Diamond Shamrock robbery, as well as three other armed robberies in Mesa during the month of November 2007. Investigators followed up on the other robberies and established probable cause to charge Lunsford in each of the cases. Schrock was not connected to the other Mesa armed robberies.

The dates and locations for the other armed robberies that Lunsford admitted responsibility for are as follows:

1) November 9, 2007 – Circle K located at 2011 E. McKellips
2) November 17, 2007 – Albertson’s located at 415 N. Stapley
3) November 18, 2007 – Circle K located at 310 N. Mesa Drive
