Mother of siz-year-old arrested for endangerment

On November 8, 2007 27-year-old Marion M. Conforti was arrested in Mesa for endangering the life of her six-year-old son. Patrol Officers from the Central Patrol Division were dispatched to a local convenience store in the area of 1600 N. Country Club in Mesa to check the well being of a female later identified as Marion Conforti. According to a witness, Conforti was passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the parking lot.

Officers arrived at the parking lot and noticed that Conforti was in fact passed out in the drivers seat with the key in the ignition. The officers woke Conforti up and she admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages throughout the night. Conforti also stated that she left her six-year-old son at home while she came to the convenience store to buy a pack of cigarettes. Conforti estimated that she had been gone for about thirty minutes.

Officers decided to check on the welfare of Conforti’s son. They responded to Conforti’s residence and made contact with her six-year-old son inside. Officer’s immediately noticed that one of the burners on the stove was on and it was radiating a tremendous amount of heat. A pizza box along with other flammable materials was within inches of the stove burner. The pizza box itself was warm to the touch. The officers recognized the fire hazard and immediately turned the stove off. The inside of the residence had a strong odor of feces and cat urine. Dirty liter boxes were located within the residence and were not clean. Liter from the boxes was spread throughout the floor. Dirty clothes covered the floors and several bottles of medication including Tylenol were found in a bag on the floor. The medication labels on some of the bottles were torn off. Two of the caps on the medication bottles were not secure.

Child Protective Services took custody of Conforti’s six-year-old son. Conforti was booked for one count of Felony Endangerment. Her bond amount is unknown. The Mesa Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to keep a close eye on their children.
