Mesa Police Department - Media Release
Man arrested for voyeurism at local department
store
On Sunday
November 11, 2007 at 5:19 p.m. a witness contacted
the Mesa Police Department to report suspicious
behavior at a local Mervyn’s
department store at 1240 E. Main Street. The witness
indicated that a male later identified as
41-year-old Mesa resident Sebastian Sostenes
had been looking up the skirt of an unsuspecting
woman inside of the store.
Uniformed patrol
officers responded to the scene and contacted the
involved parties inside at the women’s department.
The investigation revealed that Sostenes had been
following the 58-year-old victim as she shopped
alone in the women’s department. Sostenes
acted casually as he looked at women’s clothing. It
appeared that the victim did not notice that
Sostenes was watching her.
On two separate
occasions Sostenes approached the victim from
behind, lay on the ground and looked up the victim’s
skirt. The victim did not notice the suspect’s actions on either occasion. Officers
contacted Sostenes shortly after the second
incident.
During a post-Miranda interview Sostenes voluntarily admitted to the
crime. Sostenes was arrested and booked on suspicion
of voyeurism, a class 5 felony.
