Robbers caught after great police observation
On April 17, 2007 at 7:48 p.m., Mesa Police
responded to 423 N. Creston reference an armed
robbery. The 22-year-old male victim stated to
police he heard a knock at his front apartment door
and when he answered, he noticed two black males
standing in front of his door. The black males asked
for someone by the name of "G" and the victim
advised the males no one by that name lived at the
residence. Three minutes later the victim heard
another knock at his door and when he opened the
door, he noticed the same black males, but this time
they were each wearing pantyhose over their heads
and one of the males was armed with a hand gun. The
two black males forced their way into the victim's
apartment and demanded money. The victim was forced
to give the males a $20, $10, $5 and three $1 bills,
along with his wallet and various identification
cards. The black males left in an unknown direction.
Two vigilant detectives were on routine patrol in
the area of 4225 E. University around 8:50 p.m. The
detectives noticed two black males who matched the
physical description from the armed robbery that
occurred on Creston. The subjects were contacted and
a hand gun matching the description given by the
victim, was located in the waistband of one of the
subjects. Along with the hand gun, police also
located pantyhose, a pair of handcuffs and the
victim's wallet on 21-year-old Channyng Easley. The
second subject, 30-year-old Al-Hakiem Towns, had a
$20, $10, $5 and three $1 bills. Both subjects were
detained and further investigation revealed Easley
and Towns were the two males who entered into and
robbed the victim's residence at 423 N. Creston.
Easley and Towns were taken into custody and each
booked on one count of Armed Robbery and one count
of 1st Degree Burglary.
