Stabbing incident becomes first Mesa homicide of
2008
On January 16, 2008 Mesa Police responded to the
area of 1440 S. Val Vista in Mesa, reference a
possible stabbing incident. Mesa Police discovered
victim, David Frank, with a single stab wound to his
upper abdomen/lower chest area. Frank was
immediately transported to a local hospital where he
was pronounced deceased.
According
to a male witness, David Frank was in a vehicle with
a Hispanic male on January 16 attempting to purchase
heroin from the Hispanic male. Frank then demanded
his money back from the male. There was a brief
struggle and the witness stated the Hispanic male
took out a knife. The witness and Frank exited the
vehicle and Frank advised the witness that he had
been stabbed.
Mesa Police investigators worked actively on the
case and located suspect Gustavo Zamora Huizar, 24,
at a residence in Phoenix. Huizar granted consent
for Mesa Police to search his bedroom where two
handguns, $8,000 in cash, and several knives were
located.
The male witness positively identified Huizar as
the male who stabbed Frank.
Mesa Police booked Gustavo Zamora Huizar for one
count of Second Degree Murder on January 22, 2008.
