Daddy Day Care Takes a Bite
On the morning of January 29, 2008 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Mesa Police
responded to a residence in the area of 9900 E.
Diamond after receiving a suspicious activity call. Police
received information that a subject was seen
crawling underneath an opened garage door.
When officers arrived
on scene, they confronted the defendant, Jeremy
Henderson, 28, inside the
garage and he immediately fled on foot from officers. Furthermore,
officers located a three-year-old child inside Henderson’s vehicle,
which was parked in front of the Diamond
residence. A perimeter was established and
while attempting to locate Henderson, Mesa Police
K-9 Officer John LaFontaine and his K-9 Spike
discovered a cell phone and folding style knife in
the path Henderson was last seen running by police.
K-9 Spike located and bit Henderson while he was
hiding behind a patio chair in the backyard of a
residence just north of the dispatch location. Henderson was
taken into custody and transported to a local
hospital for treatment. Henderson received 10 stitches including
multiple lacerations on his arm and was shortly
discharged.
Henderson stated to officers that the three year-old
child inside his vehicle was his son. He said
shortly before entering the garage on Diamond he
attempted to drop his son with his mother at a
nearby address. However, Henderson’s wife did not
answer the door. Henderson became upset and decided
to drive around the area. Henderson stated while he was driving around he
noticed a garage door was open and he wanted to stay
warm, therefore he went into the garage to see what items
he could find.
Henderson was booked on one count of Burglary in the
2nd Degree, one count of Child
Endangerment and one count of Criminal
Trespassing.
Henderson’s child was turned over to his mother and
is currently in good welfare.
