Mesa Police Department Volunteers In Police Service
(VIPS)
Assistance In Disaster (AID) Team
Brochure
(PDF)
In an effort to bolster homeland security here in Mesa, we have
a very special volunteer position that we have added to our Volunteers In Police
Service program: our Assistance in Disaster (AID) team. Volunteers in this
position will be trained to respond in the event of a large-scale disaster
(natural or man-made) to perform your choice of a variety of duties, such
as:
Unlike our other VIPS positions, which require a minimum of
eight (8) hours per month, this position does not have a monthly requirement.
Instead, we ask you to commit to attending training -- both initial and ongoing
-- in as many offered topics as you wish to learn. (You are welcome to attend
training in all aspects of the AID program, including for duties that you may
choose not to perform during an actual event.) Your ability to successfully
complete our VIPS background clearance process and your participation in the
specialty training that we will provide will make you a tremendous asset to law
enforcement in the event of a major occurrence.
This is one volunteer position that we hope we never
have to make use of. However, knowing that you are committed, trained, and
willing to help will play a vital role in safeguarding our community!
