New internship positions are now available
through the Mesa Police Department. For those considering a law enforcement
or related field, we have some exciting ways to gain
practical experience in a cutting edge municipal
police environment.
Crime Scene Technician Intern
Assigned to our Forensic Services Section
Crime Scene Unit,
Crime Scene Technician interns will: 1) assist with
administrative projects, including inventorying and
ordering supplies; 2) ensure Crime Scene Unit
vehicles are maintained and stocked with equipment
and supplies; 3)
perform documenting and logging tasks as instructed
by a Crime Scene Technician; and 4) observe
the Crime Scene Technician operate equipment and
process crime scenes; 5) possibly be allowed to take
photographs and assist with processing certain types
of property crime scenes under the direction of a
Crime Scene Technician; 6) take scene notes to
document work performed.
All work performed will require final review and
approval by a member of the Forensic Services
Section. Intern will be expected to have good
writing skills, including legible penmanship,
sentence structure and spelling. This internship
will involve responding to calls for service in the
field, along with the Crime Scene Technician, and
will expose the intern to varying environmental
conditions, i.e., weather, indoor and outdoor crime
scenes, etc. Intern may be
subpoenaed to court as a witness and must consent to
this facet of the position before accepting the
internship. Documentation to the college will
represent the equipment that the student was allowed
to observe and the tasks that the student
accomplished while assigned to the Crime Scene
Technician. Day shift or evening shift hours
available; days and times negotiable.
Crime Laboratory Internship
Assigned to our Forensic Services Section Crime Laboratory, Crime Lab Interns will: 1) perform documenting and
logging tasks as instructed by Forensic Services Section analysts or
technicians; 2) will observe
the Lab Analyst operate the equipment and ask questions pertaining to
the equipment; 3) assist the Lab Analyst as requested; 4)
scan archived manuals, archived case data, and hard copy validation
studies; 5) organize journal articles and other written reference
materials; 6) assist lab technicians with safety inspections;
7) organize and file Material Safety Data Sheets; 8) answer
telephones; 9) stock laboratory supplies; 10) assist in
quality audits; 11) organize/update laboratory reference
collections; and 12) escort non-Forensic Services individuals. Intern may be subpoenaed to court as a witness and must consent to
this facet of the position before accepting the internship.
Documentation to the college will represent the equipment that the
student observed and the tasks the student accomplished while assigned
to the Lab Analyst. Day shift hours, Monday through Friday; times
negotiable between 8 AM and 5 PM.
ID Lab Internship
Assigned to our Forensic Services Section ID
Unit, ID
Lab Interns will: 1) fingerprint individuals;
2) file documents and ten-print cards; 3)
answer telephones; 4) escort non-Forensic
Services individuals; 5) stock supplies; and
6) scan reports. Intern may be
subpoenaed to court as a witness and must consent to
this facet of the position before accepting the
internship. Documentation to the college will
represent the equipment that the student observed
and the tasks the student accomplished. Day shift
hours, Monday through Friday; times negotiable
between 8 AM and 5 PM.
Municipal Security Technician Intern
Assigned to our Municipal Security Division,
Municipal Security Technician Interns will work with
c-cure system installations and maintenance,
including cabling, video installation and
maintenance, card readers, magnetic door lock
systems, and video monitor installation and
service. Day shift hours, Monday through Friday;
times negotiable.
Municipal Security Administrative Intern
Assigned to our Municipal Security Division,
Municipal Security Administrative Interns will 1)
work with the Administrative Support Assistant I
to perform a variety of administrative and clerical
tasks; and 2) cross-train on office duties
with the c-cure Program Assistant. Day shift hours,
Mon - Thurs; times negotiable.
Victim Services Unit Service Provision Intern
Assigned to our Center Against Family Violence,
Victim Services Unit Service Provision Interns
will: 1) prepare Injunctions Against
Harassment and Orders of Protection; 2)
provide child supervision to clients at the Center;
3) prepare crime-specific information
packets; 4) triage RMS notifications; 5)
develop a fraud information packet and checklist;
and 6) develop a resource guide and
verification of current referral resources. Day
shift hours; times negotiable between 7:00 A.M. and
6:00 P.M.
Victim Services Unit Administrative Intern
Assigned to our Center Against Family Violence,
Victim Services Unit Administrative Interns
will: 1) research grant opportunities; 2)
research guest speakers and schedule them; 3)
aid in web page development for the Victim Services
Unit and the Victim Assistance Program; 4)
prepare Victim Assistance Program training
materials; 5) perform data analysis and
report preparation; and 6) assist with policy
revision and program audit preparations. Day shift
hours; times negotiable between 7:00 A.M. and 6:00
P.M.
Central Patrol Station Administrative Intern
Assigned to our Central Patrol Substation
next to Headquarters, Central Patrol
Substation Administrative Interns will: 1)
answer telephones; 2) assist walk-in clients
at the lobby window; 3) process Juvenile
Referral forms; 4) enter citation data in a
computer database and the Records Management System
(RMS); and 5) enter data from patrol logs in
a computer database. Day shift hours between Monday
and Friday; times negotiable between 8:00 A.M. and
5:00 P.M.
Successful completion of a background
investigation (including polygraph exam, fingerprinting, and drug screen)
