Traffic Studies

The Traffic Studies Group is responsible for performing traffic engineering studies and field investigations related to a variety of functions including speed studies, traffic counts, traffic signal and stop sign warrants, school zones, speed hump program, traffic safety education, visibility restrictions and special events coordination.  The group addressed over 1,000 traffic concerns in Mesa last year.

In order to serve our customers better, the city has been divided into four areas with a dedicated Traffic Studies Analyst assigned to each area.  See which Traffic Studies Analyst (.pdf 1 page) is responsible for the location you are interested in.

Studies

The group collects and analyzes data to resolve a wide variety of traffic concerns and, when warranted, recommends the installation of passive and active traffic control devices which include signs, pavement markings and traffic signals.

The group also maintains a useful database of traffic crashes that have happened in the City of Mesa and analyzes that information to determine how the traffic environment can be made safer.

Safety Education

Many resources are available to the public either online, in print or in video.  To request print or video materials, email Traffic Studies or call 480-644-2160.
