Builders and Developers

Hard hat and road pavementThe City of Mesa Gas Division appreciates the opportunity to serve your community and thanks you for choosing natural gas. The City serves more than 50,000 homes and businesses with clean burning, efficient and economical natural gas. Because of your commitment to natural gas, we are one of the fastest growing gas companies in the country.

Our partnership to economically install natural gas requires a joint effort. In June 2000, the City of Mesa began asking all builders/developers to provide a trench or an approved sleeve material when installing gas service lines from the home fuel gas piping to the City’s gas main located at the property line. To reduce developer costs, the Mesa Gas also allows the use of joint utility trenches for gas service line installations. Of course, the joint utility trench must allow for adequate separation from other utilities and sufficient earth cover to protect the gas service line. While these efforts have required some coordination between the Gas Division and other utility service line providers, working with the builders/developers early while “other” utilities are being installed results in cost savings, improved efficiencies, and increased productivity in the installation and scheduling of gas service lines. The results are truly a win - win for all.

As a part of our continuous improvement effort, the City of Mesa has established a new contact number (480) 644-5555 exclusively for builders/developers to schedule gas service installations and gas meter sets. This contact number was created to avoid the confusion and delays of multiple telephone numbers. Please use this one number in the future to request a natural gas service order, schedule service installation and to request a natural gas meter to be set.

In addition, please use the following checklist to ensure that gas service lines can be installed expeditiously.

Before scheduling gas service line installation, the following needs to be provided:
  • A trench or approved sleeve material.
  • A trench/sleeve must be excavated installed at a minimum depth of two feet as measured from finish grade.
  • A trench/sleeve must extend from within two feet of customers fuel gas piping and meter location to within two feet of the City’s gas main line near the property line.
  • Ensure that the location of customer’s piping complies with Mesa Gas requirements show in Mesa details CP 22, CP 22.1 and CP 12 see below.
  • Call us at (480) 644-5555 to schedule the installation of the gas service line.
