Transportation Safety Institute - Pipeline
Safety Division
The Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) is a
Federal cost recovery agency that develops and
conducts worldwide safety, security, and
environmental training, products, and/or services
for both public and private sectors. The Research
and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) is the
Institute’s parent organization within the
Department of Transportation (DOT).
The role of the Pipeline Safety Division is to
promote uniformity in the application of the
pipeline safety regulations throughout the country.

Professional Organizations
American Gas Association (AGA)
The AGA represents 187 local energy utility
companies, both public and private, that deliver gas
to businesses & industries throughout the United
States. AGA is an advocate for local natural gas
utility companies and provides a wide range of
services for member natural gas pipelines,
marketing, gathers, international gas companies and
industry associates.
American Public Gas Association (APGA)
APGA is a nonprofit trade organization representing
America's publicly owned natural gas local
distribution companies (LDCs). APGA represents the
interests of public gas before Congress, federal
agencies and other energy-related stakeholders by
developing regulatory and legislative policies that
further the goals of our members. In addition, APGA
organizes meetings, seminars, and workshops with a
specific goal to improve the reliability,
operational efficiency, and regulatory environment
in which public gas systems operate.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Founded in 1880 as the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers, today's ASME is a
120,000-member professional organization focused on
technical, educational and research issues of the
engineering and technology community. ASME conducts
one of the world's largest technical publishing
operations, holds numerous technical conferences
worldwide, and offers hundreds of professional
development courses each year. ASME sets
internationally recognized industrial and
manufacturing codes and standards that enhance
public safety.
Arizona Utility Group (AUG)
AUG was established to enable member companies to
have a free and open line of communication, to
exchange information and to share experiences
associated with State and Federal pipeline safety
regulatory requirements, including: policies,
procedures, and best practices designed to safely &
efficiently operate natural gas transmission &
distribution systems.
Arizona Blue Stake*
Arizona Blue Stake was established as a one-call
notification system by underground facility owners
to assist excavators with the statutory requirements
to notify underground facility owners prior to
excavation. This damage prevention service is
provided free of charge to any individual or company
planning to excavate.
*The City of Mesa is represented on the Board of
Directors. The City of Mesa participates in this
program for the following reasons: to comply with
State law, avoid injuries, prevent costly damages
and interruptions of facility services, save time
and money, avoid hazards, and eliminate construction
delays.
Distributed Energy Association of Arizona (DEAA)
The DEAA works to foster the use and benefits of
distributed energy systems. This organization is
active in Arizona on energy related issues. For more

Gas Technology Institute (GTI)*
GTI is a leading research, development & training
organization serving energy to environmental
markets. This organization is dedicated to meeting
the nation's current and future energy needs and
environmental challenges by developing solutions for
consumers, the natural gas industry, and government.
*The City of Mesa is a member and is represented by
a Board Member.
Home Builders Association of Central Arizona
(HBACA)*
With roots dating back 51 years, the Home Builders
Association of Central Arizona (HBACA) is a
professional trade association representing and
serving the collective interests of builders and
associates in Central Arizona. In 1951, a group of
builders and associates banded together to create an
association that would unite hundreds of residential
building professionals, suppliers, subcontractors,
and affiliated industry professionals throughout the
Valley. Today the HBACA represents almost 1,000
firms with more than 50,000 employees, and serves as
the "Voice of the Housing Industry."
National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE)
NACE provides education and communicates information
to protect people, assets, and the environment from
the effects of corrosion.
