Bilingual Assistance Team (BAT)

Our Mission:   
To provide quality bilingual customer service for Mesa Fire Department employees and the citizens we serve.    

Duties/Responsibilities:   
BAT volunteers can perform their service in two main functions.  BAT members can serve as a stationary volunteer working in the Fire and Life Safety Education (FLSE) office or as a mobile volunteer assisting Connector volunteers as needed. 
       
A volunteer in FLSE will participate in activities such as:  group presentations for adults and children, assistance at community events, written and oral translations, interact with other volunteer programs, and office assistance.     

A mobile volunteer will partner with the Connector volunteers riding along and assisting with verbal translations as needed.  

Qualifications:
  1. Must be 18 years of age or older
  2. Possess a valid AZ driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  3. Submit a copy of valid motor vehicle insurance
  4. Consent to a background check including:  fingerprinting and DMV record
  5. Be available to volunteer for a minimum of six hours a month
  6. Be proficient in Spanish and English at the intermediate level

Training Process:  

Each volunteer must undergo general volunteer training.  Additional specialized trainings are offered periodically.
